Course:   Growing Up Well: self esteem for adults and children

All 12 workers will benefit from taking a 2 day Power of Self Esteem course, which now has Continued Professional Development credits and certification. This course is highly relevant for staff development but also learnings can be passed on to parents being supported by this service. In addition local Power of Self Esteem (SEE) mentors are on team to facilitate staff support. They will be available to teach any future courses of SEE requested directly for parents and/or family members on a weekly basis.

The following 3 days will be teaching how to use the GROW© material across a range of children. There will be individual workbooks for children of 4-6yrs, 7-9yrs, 10-12yrs and a leaders’ pack with detailed exercises for each age group. The workbooks have spaces to be drawn or written into and witty and thoughtful illustrations. The workbook will belong to each individual child and can be personalised accordingly. The leader’s pack will include alternative exercises to fit with the needs of each child and areas to consider when working with the parent and child together. This part of the training will be very interactive with movement, cutting, gluing, sparkles and puppets!

This is a closed course for Wirral Domestic Violence Service but if you would like to offer this training to staff within your children’s services please contact Zoë Grace Cozens on moc.liamgnull@gorfpaeleoz or on 01379 851959 or 07813 035763.

Zoë Grace is not only a qualified Social Worker on the HCPC (registration no. SW101247) who has worked in child protection teams but she also has a certificate in applying Integrative Arts in Education and has taught self esteem to adults for 25 years.

1 Oct 2014: Sensory Stimulation |Communication beyond language

Print this entry

A 1 day training in working alongside people with dementia, in a way that uses all the different senses to communicate. How do you engage with a person once their language skills are no longer available to them? They know their experiences and feelings but it may need boldness and creativity on the part of the staff member to be able to reach out to touch the person in a different way.  Using smell, touch, sound, taste and sight communication is expanded and joy on offer! Expect the unexpected that goes with the sometimes uncharted waters of dementia care.  Staff find that this day provides empathy, appreciation, adventure and a renewed enthusiasm for their job.  It is also very relevant for unpaid carers, partners and family members.  This day is a closed course for Hertfordshire Care Providers Association.
