Why choose this course?
Length of course: I day 9.30 – 4.30
This course is also suitable for users of the service and/or carers.
(cf. ADSS Safeguarding Adults, training subsection)
Expected outcomes: by the end of this course staff will be able to
- expand their ability to enable people to support themselves
- explore the issues regarding risk and individual choice
- work with the adult at risk to strengthen their identity
- use a variety of communication techniques when there is communication impairment
- increase an adult at risk’s knowledge of self advocacy
- involve a person’s support network or circle of support
- understand and know when to use the adult safeguarding procedures
- know where to go for further resources
- have more confidence in their ability to monitor and provide safeguarding
Nature of training: maximum of 16 staff members in participative group work.
Exercises will range from lecture style input to discussion and small group work.
There will be an expectation that participants will have already completed a Basic Awareness course in Adult protection or safeguarding and will have some knowledge of local policy and procedure.
Hand outs will be provided to reinforce all theoretical input.
Some visual as well as written work will be done in order to look at full communication.
